of "a novel apparatus for paying out or
laying down submarine telegraph cables or
wires, and for raising the same after they have
been laid down." On 14 January, 1859

on the 16th day of December, 1858.
The "The London Gazette" October 18, 1872 contains
Jasper Henry Selwyn, of Woodland Crag,
Grasmere, Westmorland, Captain R.N, for an
invention of "improvements in cartridges for
certain kinds of breech loading fire arms." Dated 12th October, 1865.
