  Portrait in collection Mark Heywood Haresfield.   After the Restoration of Charles 11the Bettenhams occupied in Chislehurst that position which for 3 centuries had been held by the Walsinghams. Scadbury and Chislehurst manors were both purchased by Sir Richard (of Layer de la Haye) who was created Baronet in 1666. He resided at Chislehurst for 20 years, but kept his Shrievalty at Scadbury.
